Day 6 - Part 2 - Alesund

Evidently, when the coast guard tracks you while you’re in the midst of the storm, that should be the first clue that something is up. We are now spending two nights in a port that we know nothing about - Alesund. Viking needs time to inspect the ship for damage. We have seen a lot of broken glass panels. But so far have not heard about any leakage. We will see where we head from here. It is quite possible that we will be rerouted to Bergen and the trip will be cut short.

On the upside, this is two nights that we should be able to sleep all night without rocking and rolling.

We were finally released from our cell..erm..room at 7:15pm and it was mad dash by everyone to the World Cafe and other dining venues. After trading stories with a few folks, we didn’t have it as bad as others. One couples’ outside sliding door wouldn’t stay shut and she was afraid of getting sucked out to sea. One couples’ desk came unhinged from the wall and scooted across the room. And our favorite Explorer’s Lounge lost their expensive cappuccino/espresso machine because it wasn’t anchored in.

Yesterday, at guest services, I heard a couple say their luggage was supposed to catch up with them in Narvik. Well now we aren’t going to Narvik, so they are soooo screwed. Uggg I’ve learned my lesson - carry it on, buy it if you need it.

We discovered that there was an earthquake in Norway on the 12th that was 16 miles from where we are tonight. So, yeah, that is all we need is a Tsunami to go along with our Hurricane.

Here’s pics of some of our journey.

I am really enjoying the descriptions that are stirring succinct and gut punching- wish the content was more idyllic. You are two hurricane babes; have always thought you are very resourceful; hope occurrence necessity slows down and your decisions can focus on which deck chair to select and/or how many cherries to place in an exotic cocktail! -Mary

Wow! Good for Viking to get checked out, even if it was at the Coast Guard’s insistence (?). Can’t wait for the next update to the adventure!

WOW you two are brave souls. I'm not sure I would stay around continue with this voyage but heck you have already survived a category 2 hurricane. What else could happen?

Stay safe and enjoy a good nights sleep.

I think I'd be afraid to ask "what else could happen".
